Free Post: Favorite Hobby

I love video games. Ever since I was 5, playing video games has always been one of my favorite hobbies. I started with simple SEGA games like Aladdin (platformer) and Super Bomber man (strategy and action). My gaming habits slowly developed over time, switching games because they had been worn out. I looked into Runescape (medieval role playing game)  and played it for months upon months with my brothers. Soon enough, I found another game....And another....And another....The chain continued and still continues today.

So a big question pops up - what makes gaming fun? In my opinion, there is no right answer. Looking at video games as a whole, the internet has plenty to offer. There are thousands of games accessible all the time. In addition to the mass of games, different styles of games offer even more variety. But when looking at individual games, players may be interested in the competition, action, or community.

If you haven't actually played many video games before, I recommend you consider playing some. There is a wide variety of games and I'm sure at least one game will appeal to you. Lastly, feel free to post in the comments your favorite hobby and give a bit of background information.

  1. Well golly gee Akbar, as it so happens my favorite hobby also happens to be video games. And I agree, there really is no way to describe the feelings associated with gaming. Is it victory? Rage? Depends on the game. And I've also loved video games from a young age (I'm a Pokemon junkie-bought a 3DS just for the new game). Good to see a fellow gamer be brave enough to post about it. Nice job :D

  2. I to devote almost all of my free time to gaming as charles and you know. I too have memories from my first games. I remember my original game boy and playing ninja turtles on it. I too played RuneScape and fell in love. I played it for years and years (from about 4th grade till around 6 and a bit of 7th grade) and always found what pulls me into games is achievements. The reason I stay with games for certain, long periods of time is because I set a goal to earn this rank, gun, camo, prestige, armor, etc. Being able to get one thing then work to get the next better thing is a factor that kept me into RuneScape for so long (as well as all of the CODs.)

Then theres the fun factor where you decide in the first day weather or not you love the game or you just wasted a lot of money. Then no one wants to buy it from you for the same reason of why your selling it.
I think being able to relate it to friends, discuss and debate things with them, and in some cases work together or against each other in the game helps boost the fun factor, in turn boosting the gamers time spent of see game. May I also touch on what Charles said, kudos to you (once again :p) for stepping up and discussing this topic so the fellow gamers could "come out of hiding." Thanks again!
